At Local Canvas, our goal is to create a world where every home is adorned with original works that tell a unique story. We aim to provide a path for emerging artists to be able to showcase their work to art enthusiasts. We strive to be the trusted hub where local talent thrives, supported by the community that values their craft. Local Canvas is more than a gallery; it’s a space where individuals can discover the one-of-a-kind piece that transforms their house into a home.
Our gallery represents a diverse group of emerging and established artists. We are passionate about discovering new talent and supporting the careers of our artists. We work closely with them to curate the selection and create opportunities for them to showcase their art and share their unique perspectives.
If you are a local artist interested in being featured on Local Canvas and selling your art in our online gallery, we invite you to reach out and submit your work. We believe artists should focus on what they do best- creating. That's why we take care of the grunt work, from marketing and logistics to connecting with customers, so artists can dedicate their energy to bringing their vision to life.
I am an abstract expressionist painter. I received my BFA degree in 1965 from Pratt Institute where I was fortunate to study under Alex Katz, Richard Lindner, Mercedes Matter and Robert Mallory.
After Pratt I taught art in the NYC public school system for a few years. I eventually opened a needlepoint store in Greenwich village “Design point” where I painted and sold my abstract needlepoint canvases. Recognizing the limitations of my market and enjoying a prime retail location for tourists I began designing and selling my art on activewear.
My little retail store turned into a very large national wholesale apparel company. I closed the company in the late eighties and began licensing my art to companies in the gift industry.
I met my husband and partner at this time. We saw that there was a tremendous void in the marketplace for original art on souvenir products. We formed Fifth Avenue Manufacturers, and I designed a line of Pop Art NY icon images on gift products. This company has been very successful and is still very much alive and thriving. I am recognized for this iconic style worldwide.
I have been painting all along and over the last 8-10 years I have reached a whole new level of expression. I am understanding my process and myself and am finally allowing my inner voice to show through in my work. This is a very exciting time in my life, the possibilities are limitless
